Kwara United has recorded their name in the history books, securing a priceless spot in the final of the President Federation Cup after a stunning 1-0 victory over Enugu Rangers.
The match, held on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, saw the Harmony Boys overcome the six-time FA Cup champions in a thrilling semi-final encounter, Footballrover reports.
Kwara United’s Federation Cup dream materialises
The lone goal that separated the two sides came courtesy of Wasiu Alalade, who struck just three minutes after the restart in the 48th minute.
Alalade, who has been inspirational since his return to the team, emerged as the hero for the Ilorin side once after capitalising on an opportunity to send his team into the final.
Earlier in the game, both Yahaya Ibrahim and the eventual goalscorer, Wasiu Alalade, had come close to breaking the deadlock for Kwara.
Rangers fall as Kwara creates history
In the dying moments of the match, Rangers mounted significant pressure, desperately seeking an equaliser.
However, the resilient defence of the Harmony team, marshalled by crucial saves from goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso, held firm, ensuring their passage to the FA Cup final.
An elated head coach of the team, Tunde Sanni, expressed his joy at leading the club to their first cup final in an astonishing 49 years.
Looking ahead, he affirmed that they would not underestimate Abakaliki FC in the decisive clash.
“We’ve worked so hard to get here, and we will give it our all in the final,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Abakaliki FC booked their own place in the final after a hard-fought 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Ikorodu City in Abuja, following a goalless draw.
The stage is now set for an exciting Federation Cup final showdown between Kwara United and Abakaliki FC.
