Kano Pillars’ head coach, Usman Abdallah, seems far from relaxed, and his biggest challenge isn’t just the competition on the pitch—rather, it’s where his team will play their home games.
Despite securing a commanding win in their NPFL opener against Ikorodu City, Abdallah has opened up about the major headache that lies ahead this season, Footballrover reports.
For the 2024-25 season, the Sai Masu Gida are forced to play away from their iconic Sani Abacha Stadium due to ongoing renovations.
Their temporary home? The Muhammad Dikko Stadium. And Abdallah is not thrilled about it.
He expressed concern that being away from their fortress could hamper their momentum, despite the strong start to the season.
In their first ‘home’ game, played at the neutral Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Pillars comfortably thrashed NPFL newcomers Ikorodu City 3-0.
Mustapha Umar broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, and veteran Rabiu Ali worked his magic with a sensational free kick to double the lead.
Just seven minutes later, Ali completed his brace, sealing a convincing victory.
While Abdallah praised his players for their resilience, he remains uneasy about the season ahead.
He acknowledged the team’s spirited display but emphasised the difficulty of playing away from home.
“Playing our first home match of the season away from home on neutral ground is never easy, but the boys showed great resilience,” he said.
Although some players are still finding their feet at the start of the season, Abdallah believes that overcoming the challenge of playing in unfamiliar territory will be crucial if Pillars are to maintain their early momentum.
