Nigerian footballers John Ebuka and Sodiq Awujoola were instrumental in Ceramica Cleopatra FC’s emphatic 3-1 victory over El-Gaish in the Egyptian League Cup final on Wednesday.
Ebuka got the scoring started with the opening goal, while Awujoola orchestrated the attack with a magnificent hat-trick of assists, Footballrover reports.
Their contributions powered Ceramica Cleopatra to their second consecutive Egyptian League Cup title.
Ceramica Cleopatra FC enjoyed a solid start to the game, with Sodiq Awujoola providing the assist for John Ebuka’s opening goal just 13 minutes in.
However, Karim Tarek pulled one back for the opposition two minutes before halftime.
Sodiq Awujoola took centre stage in the second half, setting up two crucial goals. Before that, though, Ebuka was substituted by Ahmed Rayan 11 minutes into the second half, despite scoring the opener.
The game took a turn five minutes later when El-Gaish was reduced to ten men after Ahmed Zola received a second yellow card.
In a move to rescue the game, another Nigerian, Godwin Okwara, who also played for El-Gaish, was substituted after 63 minutes, but that didn’t change much.
Sodiq Awujoola continued to disrupt the defence of their opponents, providing his second assist of the match in the 71st minute when he set up substitute Mohamed Tony to regain the lead for Ceramica.
Just five minutes later, Awujoola completed his hattrick of assists by turning provider once again for Spanish forward Ahmed Belhadji to extend the score to 3-1.
After a heroic performance, Sodiq was replaced by Ibrahim Mohamed with nine minutes of regular time remaining.
The match concluded with a 3-1 victory for Ceramica Cleopatra FC, who dominated the game with over 13 goal attempts and five shots on target.

Recall that in 2023 season, Ceramica Cleopatra FC were also crowned the Egyptian League Cup champions after beating Al Masry 4-1 in the final
Riding the momentum of this victory, Ceramica Cleopatra FC will return to league action on Monday, facing Smouha in matchday three.
