El Gouna’s fight for survival in the Egyptian Premier League got a major boost, thanks to the dazzling performances of Favour Akem and Tolulope Ojo.
The Nigerian duo combined brilliantly to secure a thrilling 3-2 away victory over Modern Sport at the Cairo International Stadium, Footballrover reports.
While El Gouna raced into a commanding lead, a late comeback attempt from the hosts kept the game on edge until the final whistle.
Favour Akem and Tolulope Ojo run the show
El Gouna struck first in the 13th minute when Mahmoud Rezk turned the ball into his own net.
Minutes before halftime, Favour Akem and Tolulope Ojo linked up beautifully—Akem providing the assist for Ojo to double the advantage.
The duo continued their dominance early in the second half, with Ojo returning the favor by setting up Akem to make it 3-0.
Modern Sport refused to go down without a fight. Ahmed Atef pulled one back before Nigerian forward Fejiri Okenabirhie assisted his side’s second goal, igniting hopes of a comeback.
However, El Gouna held firm to claim all three points.
Crucial win in the relegation battle
This victory marks El Gouna’s second consecutive win, pushing them to 14th place on the 18-team table with 16 points—just three above the relegation zone, with a game in hand.
They now turn their attention to their next challenge against Pharco, aiming to extend their winning streak.
