Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League side Nasarawa United kicked off their preseason campaign with a disappointing defeat to Lobi Stars on Thursday afternoon.
The coach Usman Adams‘ side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of their preseason game, Footballrover reports.
The match, held in Makurdi, served as a stern test for the Solid Miners as they prepare for the upcoming league season.
Lobi Stars dominated the encounter, capitalising on Nasarawa United’s errors to secure the victory.
Following a tight first half, Uche Odeh‘s unintentional deflection of the ball into his own net handed Lobi Stars a well-deserved 1-0 lead just 14 minutes before the interval.
The second period of the game saw Lobi Stars enjoy the majority of possession, mounting pressure on their visitors.
Their persistence paid off six minutes before stoppage time, when Seun Oluwatoba found the back of the net to double their advantage and also proved to be the winner.
Nasarawa United will have a chance to redeem themselves in the return leg, scheduled for Friday at the Lafia City Stadium.
The team is undergoing a rigorous preseason schedule to prepare for the challenges of the NPFL.
This includes friendly matches and training camps in Abuja and Ogun State.
The Nasarawa Miners will face tough opposition in these preparatory matches, including Kano Pillars, Plateau United, and Kwara United, as well as international side ASVO FC.
Meanwhile, they will kick off their NPFL campaign against Shooting Stars on September 8th at the Lafia City Stadium.
