Sierra Leone defender, Osman Kakay is hoping to see the Leone Stars secure victory over the Super Eagles in their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The team is adequately prepared and ready for Thursday’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, according to the defender.
The John Keister’s men are eager to get back to the competition after a decent performance at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon, their first participation since the 1996 edition in South Africa.
In Group A of the Afcon qualifiers, the Leone Stars will face Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao Tome & Principe.
The West Africans will continue their search for a spot in Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with an exhibition match.
The West African side will kick off their campaign for a spot in Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with an away match against the Super Eagles at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Stadium.
The Leone Stars came back from four goals behind to tie 4-4 with the Super Eagles in Benin City in 2020, followed by a scoreless draw in Sierra Leone.
Nigeria has squandered its previous five matches, including two friendly losses under the new coach – Jose Pesieiro and poor results in world cup qualifiers.
In a brief video released on the Sierra Leone Football Association’s Twitter account, the Queens Park Rangers defender stated:
“The boys are in good spirit, we are preparing for the games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau. Thereβs been talks going round misrepresenting what Iβve said but Iβm a professional footballer I respect every opponent I play against. Hopefully me and the team can go out there and put our hearts on the line for Sierra Leone and give the fans back home what they want.”
