Finidi George Unveiled: Rivers United Seeks Rejuvenation Amidst High Expectations

Former Super Eagles and Enyimba International FC’s head coach, Finidi George, was officially unveiled yesterday, July 4, 2024, as the new technical adviser and head coach of Rivers United FC, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The colourful ceremony, which was performed by the General Manager of Rivers United FC, chief (Dr.) Okey Kpalukwu, took place at Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Footballrover reports.

It was graced with the presence of the Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Barrister Christopher Green, the Special Assistant to the Governor of Rivers State on Youth and Sports, Honourable Norisia Wilfred Pepple, Chairman, Rivers United Supporters Club, Ambassador Otis Asonye, the General Manager of Rivers Angels FC, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Matilda Otuene, the coach and players of Rivers Angels FC, Port Harcourt.

Presenting the new coach with his official club jersey bearing the first letter of his surname, “G,” and his full first name, “FINIDI,” embossed on the jersey, the general manager said it was no more news that Finidi George was now the coach of Rivers United FC after he officially signed a two-year contract with the club yesterday, Wednesday, July 3, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He described the event as a joyful one since, according to him, the new coach was not a stranger in the state after playing in the local league before travelling abroad to play professional football.

Chief Kpalukwu said that the new coach has “served the state and also paid his dues, “emphasising that he was very optimistic that the new coach will succeed in his new assignment.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Barrister Christopher Green, welcomed the new coach to Rivers State, his home state, and described him in glowing terms as “man-of-the-moment, best, most efficient, dedicated, and a serial winner.”

The commissioner said Rivers State deserves the best and, as such, expects the new coach to win laurels and trophies.

He urged him to bring new and talented players to the club. “Bring the best players in Nigeria to Rivers State and win the league and the President Federation Cup; we will support you,” Barrister Green said.

On his part, the new coach of the Pride of Rivers, Finidi George, thanked the people of the state for the love bestowed on him on his homecoming.

“Having seen the love bestowed on me by the people of the state and coming after several years, I owe the Rivers people commitment and willingness to win and bring back laurels and trophies to the state,” he said.
