Enugu Rangers have signed yet another star player and hitman from Bayelsa United, and it’s none other than Ekeson Okorie, in a move to further strengthen their attacking options.
Ekeson Okorie arrives at the Enugu club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Bayelsa United, Footballrover reports.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the Prosperity Boys confirmed the departure of the forward to join the current Nigeria Premier Football League champions on their social media pages.
“We can confirm the departure of winger Ekeson Okorie to Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Enugu Rangers, after a two-season loan spell with us from Cynosure FC of Abakaliki,” the club wrote.
However, it seems the Prosperity Boys are not completely happy with the move.
While the club’s statement confirmed Okorie’s departure to the league champions, it also revealed that the winger spent the previous two seasons on loan at the club from Cynosure FC of Abakaliki.
And when they approached him to renew his deal with the club at the end of the season, the top striker simply said NO!
Footballrover understands that despite Bayelsa United’s apparent desire to keep Okorie, the player opted for a new challenge.
The club acknowledged several attempts to retain him and wished him well in his future endeavours, including potentially representing the Nigerian national team.
“We enjoyed your time here with us; your dedication and commitment to the club is worth emulating by players. Our prayer is for you to excel in your new club as well as wearing the national team jersey,” the club said.
The 20-year-old had an impressive season with Bayelsa United, contributing directly to 12 goals (8 goals and 4 assists) in 30 league appearances.
This feat is even more impressive considering the team’s struggle to avoid relegation.
