Super Eagles star Emmanuel Dennis has finally found the back of the net after a long wait as he grabbed a goal to help Brøndby secure a vital victory on Wednesday night.
The forward came off the bench to score a dramatic late goal, ensuring a 1-0 win against Viborg FF at the Energi Viborg Arena, Footballrover reports.
Emmanuel Dennis Ends Goal Drought in Dramatic Fashion
The Nigeria international started the match on the bench but was introduced in the 80th minute for Mads Frokjaer-Jensen.
It took the 28-year-old just ten minutes to change the game. In the first minute of stoppage time, Dennis pounced on a loose ball following a set piece.
He struck a powerful shot past the Viborg goalkeeper, sparking massive celebrations among the away supporters.
This goal marks a significant turning point for the former Watford man. It has been 2 years and 24 days since he last scored a competitive goal, which came for Watford against Leeds United in March 2024.
Before this strike, Dennis had played 383 minutes across eight games for Brøndby without finding the net.
Overcoming Injury Challenges at Brøndby
Despite the brilliance, the forward admitted he is still battling physical setbacks. He arrived at the club in January and has struggled to stay fully fit.
However, his persistence paid off during the round 28 clash. Speaking after the match, he was quoted as saying by Bold:
“I’m feeling fantastic. We got three points and it was my first goal for the club. It really means a lot to me. The fans mean a lot to us and to me. They have been good to me since my first day, and even if we haven’t played well, they always support us.”
The former Premier League forward continued:
“It’s something that really means something to me. When I scored, I immediately thought of the fans and I just wanted to celebrate with them.”
Dennis also touched on his recent fitness issues, noting:
“There have been a lot of muscle problems for me, and I also had problems with my thigh in the match. I played anyway, and I scored. It hasn’t been easy for me, but I just work hard anyway. I just have to keep going and then I have to be patient. I’m 28 years old, so I know how to handle a situation like that.”
With 20 goal involvements from his time in the English top flight, Brøndby fans will hope this winning goal is the start of a prolific run for the Nigerian star.
