Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche did not hold back after his team’s 2-0 loss to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Adel Amrouche admitted his side handed the Super Eagles two easy goals, forcing him to change his tactics early in the game, Footballrover reports.
However, his most surprising revelation was about Nigeria’s current strength compared to past teams.
Rwanda coach questions Nigeria’s strength despite the victory
Speaking after the match, Rwanda boss Amrouche acknowledged his players’ efforts but pointed out that certain habits needed to change.
“They tried, but there’s something we need to correct. We have to correct some habits I don’t like in football… My players, they fight, but my fighting is not like that; it is more, it is more,” he said.
The Algerian tactician also made a bold statement about Nigeria’s current squad.
“We give credit to the opponents, but I don’t see Nigeria as the Nigeria of before. It’s not easy, but this is football,” he added, suggesting the truth about the Super Eagles is that they may not be as dominant as they once were and feared to be.
Super Eagles take crucial win, Rwanda looks ahead
Despite Amrouche’s remarks, Nigeria’s victory was decisive.
Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen struck twice, first in the 11th minute from an Ademola Lookman assist and again in first-half stoppage time from Samuel Chukwueze’s assist, sealing all three points for the Super Eagles.
While Nigeria now shifts focus to their clash against Zimbabwe, Rwanda will regroup as they prepare to host Lesotho next week.
Amrouche emphasised that his team must learn from their mistakes and improve moving forward.
