Lacazette has decided to return to Lyon, and the 31-year-old has now signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club that would keep him there until the summer of 2025.

Arsenal let the striker leave as a free agent after his contract expired, and the Premier League club announced his departure on Friday.

Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon, his boyhood club, for a world-record cost of €60 million in the summer of 2017.

Lacazette scored 71 goals in 206 games throughout his five years in north London, with his best season coming in 2018-19, when he struck 19 goals in 49 appearances.

Lacazette had his least successful season for Arsenal last season, netting just six times in 36 appearances. It was the first season since 2012-13 that he did not score more than 10 goals.

Lacazette recorded 129 goals in 275 outings for Lyon prior to joining Arsenal.

After being a part of the Ligue 1 club’s development system since 2003, he made his first-team debut in May 2010 under Claude Puel.

During his initial stay at Lyon, Lacazette also made his international debut for France, going on to gain 16 caps and score three goals.

Lacazette has now departed Arsenal after winning the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season and replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the club’s captain, following the departure of the Gabonese.
