Southampton fans were on the verge of celebrating a crucial home victory after Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu found the net, but in a cruel twist of fate, Crystal Palace shattered their hopes with a last-gasp equaliser.

The Nigerian international was once again the hero for the Saints, but his goal wasn’t enough to secure all three points in a gripping Premier League clash at St. Mary’s Stadium, Footballrover reports.

Paul Onuachu’s aerial masterclass puts Southampton ahead

Making his 10th start of the season, Paul Onuachu wasted no time making an impact.

In the 18th minute, he powered a header at Dean Henderson, forcing the goalkeeper into a comfortable save.

Undeterred, he tried again just two minutes later, this time meeting Mateus Fernandes’ cross with another towering header—Henderson got a touch, but the ball found its way into the net.

St. Mary’s echoed so loud as Southampton took the lead.

The Nigerian striker’s fine form continued, marking his fourth Premier League goal of the season and his second in consecutive matches.

Having already netted against Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, and Wolves, he remains a beacon of hope in the Saints’ survival fight.

Southampton’s late heartbreak: Palace snatch a point

Crystal Palace, riding a five-match winning streak in all competitions, found themselves struggling to create chances.

Their closest attempt in the first half came when Jean-Philippe Mateta rattled the crossbar with a powerful strike.

However, it wasn’t until the dying moments that Southampton’s dream turned into despair.

Despite dominating possession, the Saints failed to register a shot on target in the second half.

Just when it seemed they would secure their first home league win under Ivan Jurić, substitute Matheus França rose high to meet Jefferson Lerma’s cross and buried a header past Aaron Ramsdale deep into stoppage time.

Southampton’s frustration was palpable as Palace extended their unbeaten Premier League run to four matches.

While the Saints avoided an unwanted record of 10 consecutive home defeats, this result leaves them still chasing their first St. Mary’s victory of the season.
