The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria defeated Zambia by a slim margin on Sunday night in Algeria to begin their Total Energies U-17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The Eaglets kicked off their campaign with all three points thanks to the lone goal by Favor Daniel at the Stade Mohammed-Hamlaoui in Constantine.
The Golden Eaglets pressed the Zambians early on but an excellent display from Shedrack Kalyati prevented the Nigerian team from establishing progress.
For their part, the Zambians were apprehensive at first before calming down and firing attempts at the Eagles’ defense.
Despite the Nigerian players having multiple opportunities to grab the lead, the first half ended scoreless.
The Golden Eaglets continued where they left off in the first half, with the Nduka Ugbade’s team playing at full strength.
Before a stray ball was picked up by Daniel 14 minutes from the end, who scored the Eagles’ long-awaited goal by latching onto it.

Even though substitute Light Eke missed a last-second penalty, Nigeria still managed to win and earn their mark.
The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria fully deserved their 1-0 win over the Zambia team but would have hope for a more convincing scoreline.
After the final whistle, Yahaya Lawali of the Golden Eaglets won the Man of the Match honor after helping Nigeria defeat Zambia by a narrow margin.
The Eaglets’ next match in the competition will be at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui on Wednesday against Morocco, who defeated South Africa 2-0 in their opener.
