Three times CAF U-17 Football Champion, Mali, kicked off the first match in Group C of 2023 edition of the AFCON tournament with a narrow 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso.
In a balanced game played at Stade 19 Mai 1956, Annaba in Algeria, the slim margin was all that was needed to separate both sides after the final whistle.
A 26th minute goal scored by Malian attacker, Mamadou Dumba, made all the difference for the two sides, and also earned the Malians three precious points in the group.
The two teams ended the second half scoreless with the Burkinabes unlucky not to have equalized as they made several unsuccessful attempts to draw level with the Malians.

Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will be looking to build on their recent success when they face Morocco in the second game of the group stage.
A well deserved 1-0 win over the Zambia team helped the Nigerian junior team kick off their AFCON campaign with three points.
Nigeria still ranks second in their group, though, after Morocco crushed South Africa by a 2-0 scoreline in the other match.
The Golden Eaglets will be aiming to win their third U17 title, and they will continue this quest with the hopes of beating Morocco to seal their passage to the next round.
