Africa’s second representative in the round of 16 of the on-going 2023 U-20 Men’s World Cup, Gambia, has crashed out of the competition.
Gambia crashed out after losing 0-1 to one of South America’s representatives, Uruguay, in a round of 16 match played later today at Estadio Unico Madre Dr. Ciudades, Santiago del Estero, Angentina.
Anderson Duarte scored the lone goal for Uruguay in the 65th minute of the second half of the match with an assist from Alen Matturo after a goalless first half.

Gambia topped Group F with 7 points after 3 matches in the group stage of the continental championship.
Uruguay finished as the second-place team in Group E, earning 6 points from three matches, while England, who secured 7 points from three matches, took the top spot.
Following Gambia’s elimination, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria are now the only remaining African representative in the quarterfinals of the championship.
In the quarterfinals, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria will face South Korea.
South Korea emerged victorious in the previous round of 16 match of the 2023 U-20 Men’s World Cup in Argentina, defeating Ecuador 3-2.

The first half concluded with South Korea leading 2-1. In the second half, the Asians extended their lead to 3-1 before Ecuador narrowed the margin to 2-3.
