According to reports, Alex Iwobi, the Nigerian midfielder for both the Super Eagles and Everton FC, has revealed the reason behind Dele Alli’s poor performance under Frank Lampard.Alex Iwobi reveals reason behind Dele Alli's poor performance under Frank Lampard

Iwobi and Alli, who share Nigerian descent, were teammates at Goodison Park.

During their time together at Everton, Iwobi was a regular player for the club while Alli consistently found himself on the bench.

Alli made 13 appearances for Everton without scoring a goal or providing an assist.

As a result of his decline, Alli was loaned out to Besiktas JK, but even there, he struggled to meet expectations and was also benched.

At one point, he was even asked to distance himself from the club’s matches and watch them from the stands.

While many attributed Dele Alli’s poor performance to his lavish lifestyle and stubborn behavior, Iwobi has a different perspective.

According to Iwobi, Alli is not the type of player who takes training seriously unless it’s a match day.

The Super Eagles star told FilthyFellas and was quoted by The PUNCH Nigeria;

With him (Alli), he will say it himself, he isn’t a training player. Unless it’s a match in training and then you see Dele perform. When it comes to training matches, he is a joke. When it comes to drills – he tries, but because he’s slow with it. And when it comes to games, he will score and assist or something.”

Iwobi stressed that;

It was hard for him to play. If you’re not just doing it in training, and at the time, the manager needed reliable players. He (Lampard) couldn’t really put his trust in him. We all know Dele could have performed.”

Alli is expected to return to Everton after his loan spell at Besiktas JK ends, but there are rumors that the 27-year-old may be sold this summer.

Iwobi himself narrowly avoided relegation to the Skybet Championship last season by winning the match-day 38 fixture.
