Şanlıurfaspor’s dominant away win over Adanaspor on Saturday evening was inspired by a familiar name—one that once lit up the Super Eagles but had faded from the spotlight as a forgotten star.

In a thrilling Turkish 1. Lig encounter, the forgotten Super Eagles star Olanrewaju Kayode reminded fans of his prowess with a stunning hattrick that left the opposition scrambling, Footballrover reports.

But there’s more to this story than just three goals.

After a slow start to the game, Şanlıurfaspor found their rhythm thanks to an early own goal by an Adanaspor player.

With the momentum shifting in their favour, Kayode capitalised, netting his first goal just before the halftime break, giving his side a commanding 2-0 lead.

Kayode’s brilliance did shine even brighter in the second half. Six minutes after the restart, he found the net again to make it 3-0, and with ten minutes left on the clock, he completed his hattrick, sealing a decisive 4-1 victory.

Forgotten Super Eagles star steals the show

The 31-year-old’s performance marked his fourth goal in six appearances for Şanlıurfaspor, who are pushing for promotion.

The Nigerian forward has been on a remarkable journey since his early days of his career, having played in various leagues across Europe.

Kayode’s career moves include stints at clubs like Luzern, Austria Vienna, and Shakhtar Donetsk, amassing 89 goals in 281 matches.

His move to Şanlıurfaspor in August seems to have reignited his form, with his recent performances suggesting there’s plenty more to come from the veteran forward.

Olanrewaju Kayode first made his mark with the U-17 team, appearing five times before moving on to the U-20s, where he netted four goals in 15 matches.

He also suited up for the U-23 side on three occasions. His big moment came in 2017 when he earned his Super Eagles debut, ultimately making four appearances for the senior national team.

Though his time with the Nigerian national team was brief, Kayode’s latest exploits in Turkey may prompt a fresh look at a player who once donned the green and white jersey.
