Galatasaray’s UEFA Europa League journey ended in disappointment, but for Victor Osimhen, the pain runs deeper.
The Nigerian forward delivered standout performances, yet his European dream was shattered—not by his own shortcomings, but by Galatasaray’s failures, Footballrover reports.
Victor Osimhen’s brilliance couldn’t save Galatasaray
On Thursday night, Galatasaray bowed out of the Europa League following a 6-3 aggregate defeat to AZ Alkmaar.
Despite conceding twice to Seiya Maikuma and Denso Kasius before the 56th minute, the Turkish champions salvaged a draw.
Victor Osimhen provided a rare spark, netting a stunning half-volley in the 56th minute to cut the deficit.
His goal marked his fifth consecutive strike in the Europa League, making him the first Galatasaray player since Burak Yılmaz (2012-13 Champions League) to score six or more goals in a single European campaign.
Turkish pundit laments Osimhen’s ruined story at Galatasaray
Turkish football analyst Uğur Karakullukçu did not hold back in his post-match analysis.
He expressed sorrow over Osimhen’s premature European exit, blaming Galatasaray for failing to support the Super Eagles star’s ambitions.
“May God bless Osimhen. He tried so hard. He is a player whose story Galatasaray has ruined. I am sad that his story in Europe ended like this,” Karakullukçu stated via his YouTube channel, as quoted by habersarikirmizi.com.
Despite the disappointment, he praised Osimhen’s dedication, emphasising that the striker gave everything for Galatasaray.
“He represented the Galatasaray jersey very well in Europe; kudos to him. Galatasaray’s only game for the last three months has been to hype Osimhen. He didn’t trip or do anything. He did his best,” he noted.
Osimhen and his teammates now turn their focus to the Turkish Super Lig, where a fierce showdown with arch-rivals Fenerbahce awaits on Monday, February 24.
