Super Falcons star Esther Okoronkwo has once again proven why she’s a force to be reckoned with, delivering an important assist on Saturday that powered AFC Toronto to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Calgary Wild.

Her crucial contribution ensured Toronto secured vital away points and continued their climb in the Canada Northern Super League standings, Footballrover reports.

Okoronkwo’s game-winning assist against Calgary Wild

AFC Toronto started strong in this entertaining Matchday 9 clash with Nikayla Small opening the scoring barely 19 minutes into the encounter.

Just eight minutes later, Small found the net again, this time after expertly combining with Okoronkwo, giving the visitors a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

This marked Esther Okoronkwo’s second assist in two games, following her impactful performance in Toronto’s previous 5-goal win on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old forward displayed her exceptional playmaking skills throughout her 58 minutes on the field.

Her latest goal contribution adds to her impressive season tally, bringing her to two assists alongside three goals in eight appearances for AFC Toronto.

While Danielle Steer managed to pull one back for Calgary Wild in the 54th minute, Toronto’s defence held firm, denying the hosts an equaliser and securing all three points at the final whistle.

Thanks to this hard-fought victory, Esther and her teammates have now extended their winning streak to two games, building on their 3-2 triumph against Vancouver Rise.

AFC Toronto boasts an impressive record of five wins, one draw, and just one loss in their last seven games.

This consistent performance keeps them firmly in second place with 16 points, trailing league leaders Montreal Roses by just one point.

AFC Toronto will look to maintain this strong momentum when they host Halifax Tides next Saturday.
