Enyimba FC central defender Ojietefian Sylvester Desmond has sent a heartfelt farewell message to the club, hinting at his departure after just one season.
The 20-year-old joined the Aba Elephants in July 2023 from Shooting Stars, but has since opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere, Footballrover reports.
Sylvester’s emotional farewell message, posted on his social media page, expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his time at Enyimba.
He credited the fans, his teammates, and the coaching staff for shaping him into the player he is today.
“My time with Enyimba International Football Club has been nothing short of extraordinary. I am deeply grateful for the love, support, and camaraderie I have experienced here. From the fans who cheered relentlessly from the stands to my teammates who became my brothers, you all have been instrumental in shaping me into the player and person I am today,” Sylvester wrote.
Recall that before joining the former NPFL champions on a two-year deal reportedly worth over N500,000 annually, the young defender rejected a contract extension at Shooting Stars.
This move was seen as a significant step up for Sylvester, joining a club with a rich history and nine Nigerian Premier League titles to their name.
Enyimba fans will undoubtedly miss his presence on the backline after helping the team gain a spot in continental football, even as reports suggest that Shooting Stars have decided to bring the defender back home.
Desmond departed the Oluyole Warriors for the People’s Elephants the previous campaign, and the defensive specialist will now rejoin the Shooting Stars in a few days.
