From the first whistle, Enyimba dominated the play, creating several scoring opportunities.
However, it was the Pride of Rivers who struck first, silencing the home crowd with an exquisite lob from Andy Okpe in the 14th minute.
Enyimba responded with vigour, and it wasn’t long before Mboama found the back of the net.
Capitalising on a defensive error, he equalised in the 23rd minute, much to the delight of the home fans, and the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
Mboama continued to shine, scoring his second goal just eight minutes after the break, handing Enyimba the lead.
The momentum was firmly with the defending champions, and they doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Elijah Akanni finished off a rebound from Mboama’s shot, making it 3-1.
Determined to seal their dominance, Enyimba pressed on, and in the 77th minute, Akanni completed his brace.
A slick one-two pass between Ikenna Cooper and Akanni sliced through the Rivers United defence, allowing Akanni to slot home and secure a comprehensive 4-1 win.
