Doma United head coach, Akinade Onigbinde, has shared his excitement following his team’s remarkable victory over NPFL defending champions, Enyimba.
Despite acknowledging their stroke of luck in securing the win, Onigbinde expressed pride in his team’s performance during the Wednesday clash, Footballrover reports
In an exciting showdown at the Pantami Township Stadium, the Savannah Tigers secured a 1-0 victory against the People’s Elephant.
Hillary Ekawu emerged as the hero, netting the only goal of the game just 17 minutes into the first half of the encounter, marking a historic win for Doma United in their maiden face-off against the Abia giants since their promotion to the top flight.

Coach Onigbinde lauded his team’s courage in facing the relentless pressure exerted by their visitors, claiming that it feels great to secure a win against the Aba Warriors.
“We feel great for the victory because we played against a very attacking side in Enyimba,” he said.
He highlighted the opponent’s fierce determination, likening their play to that of a wounded lion seeking redemption after their previous defeat against Kano Pillars.
Despite this, he praised his team’s collective effort across all departments in confronting the reigning NPFL champions for the first time.
“Enyimba played like a wounded lion as they were desperate to make up for their defeat against Kano Pillars last week. All the departments gave their all in the encounter despite playing the reigning NPFL champions for the first time,” the coach added.
Following this significant win, Doma United climbed to the fourth position on the league table with 14 points.
Meanwhile, Enyimba’s struggles persist as they languish in the 17th position, residing within the relegation zone and facing two pending matches.
Looking ahead, the Gombe Boys are set to host Plateau United in their upcoming fixture at the Gombe Township Stadium on Saturday.
On the following day, Enyimba will host the current league leaders Lobi Stars, seeking to rebound from their recent setback.
