Rivers United FC has made a significant move in preparation for the upcoming 2023/23 NPFL campaign by securing the services of former Enugu Rangers star Shedrack Asiegbu as a free agent.Former Enugu Rangers Star Shedrack Aseigbu joins Rivers United

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder joins the club after a successful three-year spell at Enugu Rangers, bringing his experience and skill to bolster the team’s midfield for the upcoming season.

With the departure of key players and the release of seven others at the end of the season, the Stanley Eguma side have been working behind doors to reinforce their squad both for the NPFL and continental games.

Shedrack Asiegbu’s addition to the team is seen as a strategic move to fill the gap left by the departure of Morice Chukwu, who joined Singina in Tanzania after his contract expired.

Shedrack Asiegbu’s journey in the NPFL began in January 2016 when he joined Abia Warriors on a free transfer from his hometown club.

After spending four fruitful seasons with the Umuahia Warriors, the young talent made a switch to Enugu Rangers in July, also on a free transfer, where he made a name for himself as an attacking midfielder.

During his time in the Nigerian League, including three-year tenure with Enugu Rangers, Asiegbu featured in more than 158 NPFL games and netting 13 goals in the process.

His contributions to the team’s success and his consistent performances caught the attention of Rivers United, leading to his latest move.

Footballrover understands that the signing was secured on a one-year deal that will see the Umuabali-born midfielder earning an impressive sum above 600k.

However, despite the arrival of Ivorian striker Bernard Yao Kouassi, Rivers United has not stopped its quest for strengthening the squad further.

The club is actively pursuing the addition of two more strikers ahead of the upcoming season to ensure a well-balanced and formidable team on the field.

Following his medical assessment and successful contract signing, Shedrack Asiegbu is set to meet his new teammates soon as they unite for the challenges and tasks that lie ahead in the 2023/23 NPFL season.
