Sir Siminalayi Fubara the Governor of Rivers State, has challenged Rivers United to prove their dominance by winning the NPFL Championship trophy and bringing the prestigious trophy back to Rivers State.
The Governor conveyed this message in an inspiring video call ahead of their crucial match against Enyimba International tonight.
The Governor expressed his support during the call, which included key figures such as former Commissioner for Sports Barrister Christopher Green, General Manager Chief Okey Kpalukw, Club Secretary Ahmed Abdulrahman, Technical Manager Stanley Eguma, as well as the Players, Technical Crew, and Support staff.
Governor Fubara commended the team for securing the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the CAF interclub competition, and he encouraged them to demonstrate their exceptional skills by clinching the championship.
He also assured the Port Harcourt outfit of a warm reception upon their return, should they successfully defend their NPFL title.
“I want to appreciate what the team has done. You remember what happened the last time when you did well for us. Fortunately, I was there when the trophy was handed over to you. Go and prove to the world that you still remain the best. On our own part, when you come back with the trophy, you will be honoured again in a special way,” the governor said.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the team, Captain Festus Austin conveyed their determination to bring the trophy back to Port Harcourt, assuring the Rivers Governor that their efforts would bring joy to the people of Rivers State.
“We want to assure you that we are going to get it right and bring the trophy back to Port Harcourt. Your Excellency, we will always put smiles on your face and the entire people of Rivers State,” Festus Austin said.
