Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has finally left her London women’s club, Leicester City, for AI-Ittihad women’s football club in Saudi Pro League.
The move to AI-Ittihad now confirms that the Nigerian defender has ended links to Manchester United FC.
The Super Falcons defender has played abroad in the past, wearing the colours of the USA Trojans and LA Galaxy OC in the United States before returning to England to play for her hometown club, Leicester City.
Since June 2023, when Plumptre’s contract with Leicester City expired, she has been an unsigned free agent.
In her three years at Leicester City, Plumptre registered four goals in 79 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes.
Plumptre was one of the shining stars of the Super Falcons team that represented Nigeria in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Plumptre was strongly linked to the Manchester United Women’s team after an outstanding performance with Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but that has all ended with the news of her move to Saudi.
The Super Falcons centre-back, took to her Twitter handle late yesterday to celebrate her move to the elite Saudi women’s club.
“Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad. Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings. My journey of stepping into more of myself continues.Itβs more than football,” she tweeted.
