Ashleigh Plumptre has shocked the world of football and her fans after the Super Falcons star was unveiled as a new Al-Ittihad signing in the Saudi Pro League for a new career journey.
Despite strong ties to Manchester United and PSG, the 25-year-old defender opted for a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia.
For over three years, Plumptre don the colours of Leicester City, contributing four goals in 79 appearances across various competitions.
However, her contract with Leicester City ended in June 2023, making her a free agent. It was then that Al-Ittihad seized the opportunity and successfully recruited her.
The Super Falcons centre-back took to her Twitter handle late Monday to celebrate her exciting move to the Saudi club.
In her heartfelt tweet, she expressed her gratitude and excitement to embark on this new journey with the club and highlighted the importance of personal growth beyond football.
“Grateful to have signed for Al-Ittihad. Excited to start this journey alongside some incredible human beings. My journey of stepping into more of myself continues. It’s more than football,” she wrote.
Adding to Al-Ittihad’s strengthening squad, Moroccan midfielder Salma Amani also joined the club.
Plumptre and Amani will now be part of a league that recently welcomed Rita Chikwelu, who joined Al-Shabab FC.
Let’s not forget Plumptre’s outstanding performance during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where she shone as one of the Super Falcons’ brightest stars.
Her remarkable display on the world stage garnered attention from numerous clubs vying for her signature.
