Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre displayed her brilliance in the Saudi League once again with another goal contribution for Al-Ittihad Ladies over the weekend.
Despite her efforts as captain, Al-Ittihad fell to a narrow 2-3 defeat against rivals Al-Nassr in the SAFF Women’s Cup on Sunday,Ā Footballrover reports.
Plumptreās key contributions in Al-Ittihadās narrow loss
The 26-year-old defenderĀ captained her side against their visitors in a high-stakes derby clash that saw her feature for 90 minutes and register 61 passes.
The Nigerian defender forced an own goal from Kathellen Feitoza in the 26th minute to give her side the lead.
The hosts entered halftime with a slim advantage but faced a resurgent Al-Nassr side after the break.
Mubarkh Al Saiari levelled for the away side nine minutes into the second period of the game, but Fatimah Mansour restored Al-Ittihadās lead in the 62nd minute with a sublime assist from Plumptre.
Despite this, Clara Luvanga equalised for Al-Nassr in the 80th minute, heading into the final moments of the game.
Al-Nassrās last-minute charge
The turning point came late in the game when the visiting side was reduced to ten players following Rinas Salehās red card.
However, Nesrine Bahlouliās stoppage-time goal sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory for the visiting side, knocking their hosts out of the Saudi Womenās Cup.
Ashleigh Plumptreās performance stood out, but her efforts were not enough to overturn the result.
Al-Ittihad Ladies will aim to bounce back in their next league game against Al-Qadsiah on Saturday.
