Nigerian striker Abdulrahman Taiwo was the star of the show as FK Auda secured a convincing victory over FK Liepaja in the Latvian Higher League on Sunday.
Taiwo’s goal proved to be the catalyst for Auda’s dominance, as his match-winning performance propelled his side to a crucial 2-0 home victory, Footballrover reports.
The game was a tale of two halves for the Nigerian forward, who scored the opening goal, while a second-half strike by Lucas Ramos sealed all three points at the Skonto Stadium.
The forward spurned a golden opportunity to give his team the early lead when he missed a penalty just nine minutes in.
However, he made amends in the 25th minute, capitalising on a pass from Croatian defender Tin Hrvoj to break the deadlock.
The home side doubled their advantage in the 66th minute through a combination play involving Lucas Ramos and Senegalese forward El Hadji Mane.
Despite a flurry of attacks from the visitors, who managed nine shots compared to the home team’s ten, the hosts held firm to secure the three points.
The victory lifts Taiwo’s team to fifth place in the league with 28 points, while their opponents remain rooted at the bottom of the table with 15 points.
The modest crowd of 250 fans at the Skonto Stadium witnessed a hard-fought encounter officiated by Andris Treimanis.
