Christantus Uche bags first assist for Crystal Palace

Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche delivered a commanding man-of-the-match performance to inspire Crystal Palace to a well-deserved victory over Shelbourne in their UEFA Europa Conference League clash on Thursday evening.

Uche scored the opening goal of the encounter—his first for Crystal Palace—before providing the assist for the third, as Palace swept aside Shelbourne 3-0 at the Tallaght Stadium, Footballrover reports.

Christantus Uche Leads Crystal Palace’s Ruthless Display

Although he previously featured in two Conference League matches, this was Uche’s first start for the club, and he made the most of the opportunity.

It took him 12 games to settle fully, during which he was left out of the squad entirely in five matches.

The Super Eagles midfielder could have left with a brace but was denied by the woodwork, despite registering six total shots in the game.

It took only 11 minutes for the visitors to hit their stride. Edward Nketiah slipped a precise pass into Christantus Uche, who remained composed and tucked home the opener.

Crystal Palace Midfielder Dominates Despite Limited Minutes

The roles reversed moments later—Uche turned provider, and Nketiah drilled home Palace’s second in the 25th minute as the Premier League side dictated the pace.

By the 37th minute, Shelbourne were already under pressure, and Palace tightened their grip. Daichi Kamada connected with Yéremi Pino, who finished confidently to cap a dominant first half.

A clean sheet, sharp combinations, and three assured goals—Crystal Palace enjoyed a flawless outing.

Nigeria international Uche arrived at Selhurst Park on deadline day from Spanish club Getafe on a season-long loan.

However, he struggled to adapt in his early weeks at the club.

Reports even suggested Palace were considering sending him back to Getafe in January, but Uche now appears set to remain in London for the rest of the campaign.

The Eagles reportedly want to keep the midfielder until next summer, especially after his impressive display in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Fulham.

And now, he has scored his first ever goal for the Premier League side.

With Uche omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, he is expected to play a key role for Oliver Glasner during the busy festive schedule.

The 22-year-old has made five league appearances for the London club.

Meanwhile, in the match involving FC Basel and Premier League side Aston Villa, Nigerian forward Philip Otele also featured as his team settled for a 2-1 home defeat during their Europa League meeting.

In another Europa League fixture involving Celtic and AS Roma, Kelechi Iheanacho made his return from a hamstring injury, coming on as a second-half substitute and finding the net.

However, his effort was ruled out for offside as Celtic suffered a 3-0 home defeat at Celtic Park.

Yira Sor

Yira Sor came on as a substitute, but KRC Genk still slipped to a tight 1–0 loss against Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League.

AFCON-bound Francis Uzoho delivered a standout, Man-of-the-Match performance as Omonia FC secured a crucial UEFA Conference League win against Rapid Wien.
