Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi enjoyed a memorable full debut for Olympique de Marseille in their recent Ligue 1 clash against OGC Nice.
After making a few appearances from the bench since his February move from Zulte Waregem, the 22-year-old was handed a starting role by manager Habib Beye, Footballrover reports.
Tochukwu Nnadi shines in Marseille debut start
In a high-stakes match at the Orange Vélodrome, Nnadi proved his worth by providing a crucial assist in the 1-1 draw.
The Nigerian international brought much-needed energy and control to the Marseille midfield.
Throughout the game, he showed great composure on the ball and discipline in his defensive duties.
Marseille controlled much of the possession but found it difficult to penetrate a stubborn Nice defense during the first half.
Nnadi’s big moment came in the 66th minute. Displaying excellent vision, he sent a perfectly weighted lofted pass into the penalty area.
Midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg met the delivery with a powerful header to give the home side the lead. It was a clear sign of the quality Nnadi brings to the French top flight.
Impact of Super Eagles star in Ligue 1 draw
Despite the positive momentum, Marseille could not secure the win. A late penalty in the 88th minute allowed Elye Wahi to equalise for Nice, leaving the points shared at the final whistle.
While the result was frustrating for the home fans, the individual performance of the Super Eagles star was a major talking point.
Nnadi’s ability to handle the physical nature of French football suggests he will be a key figure for Marseille.
Having already represented Nigeria at the senior level, this successful full debut marks an important step in his European career.
He looks well-prepared to become a regular fixture in Habib Beye’s tactical setup.
