Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa produced a decisive performance on Wednesday evening, scoring the match-winning goal as Kano Pillars secured a narrow 1–0 home victory over Katsina United in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash.
The round-23 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium saw the 33-year-old forward net the only goal of the game, helping the Sai Masu Gida claim all three points in a crucial result for their survival push, Footballrover reports.
Ahmed Musa Delivers Decisive Moment for Kano Pillars
After a goalless first half, the former Premier League star broke the deadlock 27 minutes into the second period, delivering the moment that separated both sides.
It was Ahmed Musa’s fourth goal of the season. He now sits as the club’s second-highest scorer, just two goals behind veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali.
The victory marked a return to winning ways for Kano Pillars after back-to-back defeats against Abia Warriors at home and Wikki Tourists away.
The result lifts the Kano-based side temporarily from 20th to 18th place on the table, with 25 points from 23 matches, as they continue their battle to move clear of the relegation zone.
Kano Pillars will now look to build on this momentum when they travel to face Enugu Rangers on Sunday.
Other NPFL Results: Draws and a Statement Win
Elsewhere, title hopefuls Abia Warriors were held to a 1–1 home draw by Wikki Tourists. Both sides failed to find the net in the first half.
However, Emeka Obioma put Abia Warriors ahead just six minutes after the restart.
Their lead lasted only five minutes, as Abubakar Taheer struck the equaliser to ensure both teams shared the spoils.
Abia Warriors are now without a win in two matches, while their visitors remain unbeaten over the same period.
Former champions Enyimba also played out a 1–1 draw against fellow title contenders Nasarawa United. The first half ended goalless, but Jofrank Istifanus gave the hosts the lead in the 69th minute.
Just four minutes later, Kalu Nweke restored parity as both sides settled for a share of the points.
It was a different story in the clash between Plateau United and Enugu Rangers. Vincent Temitope fired the home side ahead just 15 minutes into the game.
Chidiebere Nwobodo levelled matters 13 minutes later, before Temitope struck again at the stroke of half-time, converting from the penalty spot to seal the win and all three points for the Jos-based side.
