Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq has officially joined Valencia, the six-time Spanish champions, on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.
After a challenging 28-month spell at Real Sociedad marked by injuries and inconsistent form, Sadiq is determined to rebuild his career at the Mestalla, Footballrover reports.
His decision to sign was driven by a shared hunger for growth between him and the club, as he revealed during his presentation.
A new chapter for Umar Sadiq at Valencia
Sadiq’s time at Real Sociedad began in September 2022 when he was tasked with replacing Alexander Isak, who had left for Newcastle United.
However, injuries, including a serious cruciate ligament issue, limited his impact, resulting in just four goals across 50 appearances.
With Valencia currently seeking to climb back to their traditional heights, the striker saw a parallel between his personal ambitions and the club’s drive for resurgence.
The deal, finalised after three weeks of negotiations, concluded with a hectic three-day period where Sadiq arrived in Valencia, underwent his medical, and witnessed their clash against Real Madrid.
“They have been in contact with me for about three weeks now. Valencia CF is one of the biggest clubs in Spain, and we are both in the same situation of hunger and growth,” the Super Eagles star said.
Ready to shine after injury setback
Sadiq emphasised his fitness following his recovery from the cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for much of the 2022-2023 season.
“I suffered a serious knee injury. I was at my best before, but now I feel 100% physically. What I need is regular football. As a striker, what I want is to score goals and get the best results possible,” he said.
The forward aims to make an immediate impact when Valencia faces Eldense in the Copa del Rey on January 7.
