Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare on Saturday afternoon bagged a solid brace as KRC Genk and Beerschot entertained fans to a seven-goal thriller during their matchday four of the Belgian Pro League.
Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare emerged the star of the match at the Olympisch Stadion as KRC Genk edged out Beerschot in a thrilling 4-3 encounter, Footballrover reports.
The forward bagged an impressive brace to continue his hot streak in the Belgian top flight.
Arokodare’s goals came in both halves, as his compatriot, Yira Sor, also played a crucial role, providing the assist for one of Arokodare’s goals.
Genk’s victory wasn’t without its challenges.
They played a man down for a significant portion of the game after a red card, but Arokodare and his teammates dug deep to secure all three points.
The home side dominated possession and created numerous chances, but it was the Nigerian duo of Tolu Arokodare and Yira Sor who proved to be the difference-makers.
Genk fell behind early when Ewan Henderson scored in the seventh minute, but they responded swiftly with a Jarne Steuckers penalty to level the score fifteen minutes in.
Arokodare then put the visitors ahead before Carlos Cuesta doubled their advantage before halftime.
The home team reduced the deficit through Simion Michez early in the second half, only for Sor and Arokodare to combine and restore Genk’s two-goal cushion.
Mujaid Sadick’s red card offered Beerschot a lifeline, and Derick Tshimanga pulled another goal back, but Genk held on for the victory.
Arokodare, who netted 12 goals for Genk last season, continued his impressive form with a crucial contribution to the win.
This win marks Genk’s second consecutive victory in the league, with their previous win coming against Club Brugge, propelling them to fifth place in the standings.
Arokodare has now found the back of the net in three consecutive league matches, bringing his season tally to an impressive four goals in just four games.
