Tolu Arokodare has expressed frustration after Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Super Eagles striker believes Wolves were simply unlucky to miss out on a point, despite his dramatic late goal that seemed to rescue a result for his side, Footballrover reports.
Tolu Arokodare’s Late Goal Shows Wolves’ Fighting Spirit
Arokodare opened his Premier League goals account for Wolves in the 90th minute, connecting with a Mateus Mane cross to cancel out Arsenal’s 70th-minute opener.
His strike brought hope for a point, but a stoppage-time own goal from Bukayo Saka sealed the win for the league leaders.
“It is not the first time we conceded in the last minute. It’s something that we have to work on – staying focused to the last whistle – very unlucky for us. Good goal from them, and I would say it was a little bit of poor defending from us,” Arokodare told TNT Sports after the match.
Optimism Amid Struggles in Attack and Defence
The forward admitted that goalscoring has been a challenge this season but noted the team is actively working to improve in training.
He noted that they had a few chances in the second half and possessed the quality to turn things around.
Despite Wolves’ loss, Arokodare remains hopeful and confident about his side’s future.
“Hopefully in the coming games we will score more goals and everything will change,” he said.
While Wolves aim to fix their defensive lapses, Arokodare will continue to lead their attacking efforts.
The former Genk star, however, was not included in the Super Eagles’ final 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, leaving him focused on club performance and Premier League redemption.
