Super sub Cyriel Dessers delivered a man of the match performance as Rangers cruised to a convincing victory over St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup second round.
The Super Eagles forward, introduced from the bench, scored one goal and provided an assist to secure the comfortable win for his side, Footballrover reports.
A controversial goal by Cyriel Dessers helped Rangers defeat St. Johnstone 2-0 in their Premier Sports Cup match.
The Nigerian forward inspired Rangers to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
Rangers hosted their opponents at Hampden Park on Saturday evening, but little did they know that the Super Eagles star would steal the show.
The home side dominated possession, registering over 26 goal attempts and 11 shots on target, indicating potential for a more emphatic victory.
However, Cyriel Dessers’ second-half goal and assist proved decisive.
The match was evenly contested in the first half until Dessers replaced Brazilian forward Danilo at the start of the second period.
Just 12 minutes after coming in, the Nigerian international broke the deadlock, giving Rangers the lead.
Initially, the referee believed Dessers had fouled a St. Johnstone defender near the penalty box before scoring.
But then, after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, he overturned his decision, awarding Rangers a goal and sparking celebrations among the home crowd.
Intense action continued until the third minute of added time when Dessers turned provider, setting up fellow substitute Ross McCausland for the winning goal.

This sealed the victory for Rangers, securing their place in the third round of the Scottish League Cup.
The 29-year-old Nigerian forward has now delivered three goals in all competitions for Rangers already this season.
Next up, Rangers will host Ross County in the Scottish Premiership next Saturday before a crucial clash against defending champions Celtic.
