Brighton & Hove Albion kicked off their Premier League campaign in style with a resounding 3-0 victory over Everton at the Goodison Park and will have Ashley Young to say thank you to for his ugly record.
The match, however, will be remembered for the unwanted record set by Everton’s veteran defender, Ashley Young, Footballrover reports.
At the age of 39 years and 39 days, Young became the oldest player to ever be sent off in Premier League history.
The red card, shown for a reckless challenge, left Everton to battle the remainder of the match with ten men.
Brighton Boss ‘Em at Everton!
Brighton had a day to remember at the office, with most of the action packing a punch in the second half.
The Seagulls soared, while Everton crashed and burned and it was only 26 minutes in when the magic started.
Kaoru Mitoma, with a strike as clean as a whistle, converted a deadly cross that left Jordan Pickford grasping at thin air.
Brighton were up, and the crowd was on fire! The fun didn’t stop there.
Danny Welbeck, showing off his silky skills, weaved his way through the Everton defence before unleashing a rocket from the edge of the box.
Pickford didn’t stand a chance as the ball nestled into the bottom corner. Two-nil to Brighton, and Everton were confused.
Things went from bad to worse for the Toffees when Ashley Young saw red.
The veteran defender, in a moment of madness, hauled down Mitoma as he was bearing down on goal.
Referee Simon Hooper didn’t hesitate to show him a straight red.

A shower early for Young, who must have been kicking himself for such a bone-headed challenge.
That’s the fourth red card of his Premier League career, and this one could be the most costly.
Brighton weren’t done yet. Simon Adingra, with a cool finish, made it three-nil, leaving Everton’s defenders looking like Sunday league players.
And just when you thought the scoring was over, Yasin Ayari thought he’d added a fourth in injury time. But VAR chalked it off for offside, cutting short the celebrations.
It gets even worse for Everton as Ashley Young is sent off! 🟥 https://t.co/Q7dftlqIm0

A 3-0 drubbing for Everton, and Ashley Young will be having nightmares about that red card.
Brighton, on the other hand, can enjoy their moment in the sun. What a performance!
