Super Eagles prospect Tolu Arokodare has continued to make headlines in the Belgian Pro League, netting his 16th goal of the season as KRC Genk settled for a 1-1 draw against Sporting Charleroi on Friday night.
The Nigerian forward not only helped his team avoid defeat but also broke his personal record for most goals in a single league campaign, Footballrover reports.
Late header seals personal best for Tolu Arokodare
Arokodare had already matched his previous best of 15 league goals—set in 2020 with Latvian club Valmiera—after scoring against Standard Liège on February 14.
Against Charleroi, he went one step further.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, the towering striker found space in the box and expertly headed home a pinpoint cross from Jarne Steuckers, registering his name in Genk’s record books.
However, his joy was short-lived, as Daan Heymans converted a last-minute penalty to deny Genk all three points.
The Nigerian star has now recorded 23 goal contributions this season, with five assists and two additional goals in the Belgian Cup.
Super Eagles hopeful leads Belgian goal charts
Despite the late setback, Tolu Arokodare’s goal reinforced his position as the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League, with 16 goals in 28 matches.
The 24-year-old has now found the net against 12 different teams this season, showing his consistency and eye for goal.
His blistering form could not have come at a better time, with the Super Eagles set to announce their squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
With Nigeria searching for reliable attacking options, Tolu Arokodare’s 16-goal season in Belgian league might just earn him a long-awaited international debut.
With this impressive form, do you see a Super Eagles call-up on the horizon?
