Former NPFL star Echeta Deputy made a triumphant return to the pitch, marking his comeback with a goal that powered Zakho FC to a commanding victory over Al Karma in the Iraq Cup on Thursday evening.
Echeta Deputy wasted no time announcing his return, scoring the second goal of the contest to fire Zakho FC to a well deserved 2-0 victory over Al Karma, Footballrover reports.
Deputy marks comeback in style as Zakho FC march on
After serving a three-match suspension following a red card against Erbil, the Nigerian forward made a statement with a crucial second-half goal that sealed his team’s progression.
The first half was a tense battle with neither side finding the breakthrough.
However, the game came to life in the second half when Nasser Al Gahwashi broke the deadlock in the 60th minute.
Just two minutes later, Deputy doubled Zakho’s lead, ensuring their eighth consecutive unbeaten game, with six wins and two draws in that run.
With momentum on their side, Zakho FC now turn their attention to their Iraq Stars League Round 22 clash, where they will host Al Minaa on March 3.
Austin Amutu strikes in extra time to lift Al-Talaba
While Deputy stole the show for Zakho, Austin Amutu had his own moment of glory, delivering a dramatic extra-time winner for Al-Talaba in another Iraq Cup showdown.
The forward struck in the 98th minute to power his team to a hard-fought 2-0 win over Baghdad.
After a goalless first 90 minutes, the game edged into extra time, with Amutu stepping up to break the deadlock.
His clinical finish set the tone before Haidar Sabah added a second to secure the win.
Riding on this victory, Al-Talaba will now shift focus to their upcoming league fixture against Al Shorta, aiming to build on their cup triumph.
