Belgian Pro League giants Royal Antwerp have secured the signatures of two Nigerian wonderkids, adding firepower to their attacking ranks.

The Reds unveiled Orseer Achihi and Gabriel Jesus David, both 18, on Friday, February 28, in a move that signals their commitment to nurturing young talent, Footballrover reports.

But what makes these youngsters special, and how did this deal come to life?

The promising duo arrived from Nigerian grassroots club P Sports Football Academy, a known breeding ground for raw talent.

Achihi has joined Antwerp on a permanent deal, penning a long-term contract, while David, hailed as a “highly interesting” striker, has signed on loan with an option to buy.

Their move to Belgium was facilitated by Nigerian agent Atta Aneke, who has played a crucial role in the careers of Super Eagles stars Odion Ighalo, Victor Boniface, and Chidera Ejuke.

Nigerian Stars thriving at Royal Antwerp

Antwerp has a history of welcoming Nigerian players, with Alhassan Yusuf impressing over three seasons before his move to MLS side New England Revolution in August 2024.

Other notable Nigerians who have donned Antwerp’s colors include Jason Adesanya, Tosin Dosunmu, Chidera Ejuke, Bimbo Fatokun, George Ilenikhena, Dominic Iorfa, Funso Ojo, Victor Udoh, and Peter Utaka.

Orseer Achihi and Gabriel Jesus David sign a contract at the Bosuil. Both Nigerians come from P Sports Football Academy.

With Achihi (18) RAFC brings a Nigerian winger to the Bosuil. He signs a contract for 5 seasons. The attacker Gabriel Jesus David (18) makes a temporary transfer to The Great Old until the end of the season with an option for a permanent transfer,” the club wrote on their X platform.

As the Reds continue their Belgian Pro League campaign, they sit fifth in the standings with 44 points after 27 matches, eyeing another victory when they take on Cercle Brugge this weekend.
