Ahmed Musa opened his 2024/25 NPFL goal tally in style, scoring twice as Kano Pillars dominated Sunshine Stars in a 2-0 victory at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Footballrover reports.

Musa’s inspring return to the Nigerian top flight helped Pillars secure their second win of the season in the match-day five fixture on Sunday.

The former Super Eagles captain, who recently rejoined Kano Pillars alongside Shehu Abdullahi, wasted no time making his presence felt.

Five minutes into the match, he put his side ahead with a powerful long-range effort following a well-placed pass from Mustapha Umar.

Musa’s return sparks Kano Pillars’ rise
Musa doubled his tally shortly after the second half resumed, finding the back of the net again just six minutes in.

The former Leicester City forward’s clinical finishing proved too much for the Owena Waves, who struggled to contain the rejuvenated striker.

In what could have been a hat-trick moment, Musa had the chance to further extend Kano Pillars’ lead when they were awarded a penalty.

Despite the missed opportunity, Musa’s stellar performance lifted Kano Pillars to eighth place in the table, having accumulated seven points from five games.

His presence has injected much-needed confidence into a squad that had been struggling earlier in the season.

Musa’s successful debut, combined with Abdullahi’s return to action, could signal a resurgence for the former NPFL champions as they look to build momentum for their next fixture against Akwa United.

With Musa leading from the front, Kano Pillars seem poised for a stronger campaign as the season unfolds.

The Sai Masu Gida will now hope to capitalise on their newfound energy as they aim for back-to-back wins in the upcoming weeks.
