In anticipation of their upcoming friendly against the Black Stars of Ghana, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has expressed the team’s determination to secure a win, claiming that the team wants to continue from where they left off in AFCON 2023.
The highly anticipated match is scheduled to take place at the Grande Stade de Marrakech this Friday, followed by a showdown with Mali, Footballrover reports.
This encounter marks the first meeting between the two teams since their intense battle during the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs, where Ghana emerged victorious.
With the memories of that defeat still fresh, Iwobi acknowledged the significance of securing a positive outcome against the Ghanaian side, managed by Otto Addo.
Reflecting on the Super Eagles’ impressive performance in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they secured a commendable second-place finish, Iwobi highlighted the team’s desire to maintain their momentum.
Despite the disappointment of narrowly missing out on the AFCON title, the Fulham star explained the team’s determination to build on their achievements and deliver a strong performance.
Acknowledging the challenges of returning to club commitments immediately after the AFCON, Iwobi stressed the team’s limited time for reflection following their defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
However, he expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to continue their positive form and strive for improvement.
“We want to continue with the form we showed at the AFCON and hopefully improve our performance,” he said.
