Michy Batshuayi, the Belgian striker for Galatasaray, has stirred up some conversation by claiming he is technically superior to Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.
This bold assertion comes after Batshuayi’s match-winning goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Bodrum at Grey Beton Bodrum Stadyumu on Saturday.
But is this just confidence, or does he truly believe he can outshine Victor, one of Europe’s most prolific strikers?
The goal, which came in the 54th minute, was a header off a well-delivered cross from Dries Mertens.
Batshuayi’s confidence: A rivalry or respect for Osimhen?
Michy’s performance added to his tally of six goals for the season in just 18 appearances across all competitions. His contribution has been crucial as Galatasaray continues to dominate the Super Lig.
On the other side, the Super Eagles star, despite his undeniable talent, couldn’t find the back of the net during his 90 minutes of action.
However, his season stats are remarkable, with eight goals and four assists in just ten games, proving he remains one of the top forwards in European football.
In his post-match comments, the Belgian expressed admiration for Osimhen’s strengths, particularly his aerial prowess and ability to deal with long balls.
However, Michy took the opportunity to emphasise his own technical abilities, stating that, in his view, he is more technically gifted than Osimhen.
“Of course, I can play as a double forward or as a single forward. But when we look at it, Victor is good at long and aerial balls. I can also make deep runs.”
“I am technically better from my perspective. Of course, when you look at this, the coach’s choice is important. We actually offer the coach the necessary options,” he told Galatasaray’s official website.
Galatasaray’s victory keeps them firmly at the top of the Super Lig standings with 34 points, having secured 11 wins and a draw from 12 matches.
Meanwhile, Bodrum continues to struggle at the other end of the table, sitting in 16th place with just 11 points from 13 games.
