Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to score for the third straight game, leading KRC Genk to a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Standard Liege.
His decisive goal in the Round of 16 of the Belgian Cup was crucial in securing Genk’s progression to the next stage, footballrover reports.
Arokodare, who has been in remarkable form, now boasts 11 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions this season—10 in 16 league matches and one in two cup games.
His consistency continues to be a key factor in Genk’s success as they chase glory both domestically and in European competitions.
Arokodare’s goal in third straight game powers Genk to Cup victory
The 23-year-old striker had already found the back of the net in previous matches, including a goal against Charleroi in a 3-0 win and an opening goal in the 2-2 draw against St. Truiden.
But it was his equaliser against Standard Liege that stood out, taking the game into extra time and giving his team the momentum they needed to clinch victory.
Arokodare’s impact was felt just minutes after his introduction in the 69th minute.
With Genk trailing 1-0 following Andi Zeqiri’s second-half goal for Standard Liege, Arokodare quickly equalised seven minutes later, sending the match into extra time.
The game remained deadlocked until Patrik Hrosovsky netted the winning goal in the 115th minute, securing the win for Genk.
With another clutch performance, Tolu continues to play a huge role in Genk’s quest for success this season.
The Jupiler Pro League leaders will now shift their focus back to league action as they prepare for their next challenge against Kortrijk.
