Former Sunshine Stars head coach, Edith Olumide Agoye, has officially parted ways with the club, sending a heartfelt farewell message while clarifying his departure as a mutual contract termination.
Agoye, who led the Akure-based team to a respectable fourth-place finish in the 2022–2023 NPFL season, is now a free agent coach, open to new opportunities, Footballrover reports.
In a press conference held in Ibadan on Tuesday morning, Agoye expressed his gratitude to the Ondo State government, Sunshine Stars management, and the passionate fans for the opportunity to manage the club.
He acknowledged the immense support received during his tenure, specifically mentioning former Sports Commissioner Bamidele Ologun, General Manager Prince Tunde Ogunja, and the entire technical crew.
While dispelling rumours surrounding his exit from the club, Agoye emphasised:
“I was never sacked by the Sunshine Stars. We terminated the contract mutually. I believe this clarifies the situation.”
Agoye’s achievements with the Sunshine Stars cannot be overlooked.
In his first season, he guided the team to a third-place finish, securing a spot in the prestigious NPFL Super Six playoff in Lagos.
While Enyimba ultimately emerged as league champions, Sunshine Stars’ fourth-place finish under Agoye’s leadership was a commendable feat.
With his coaching contract now terminated, Agoye is officially a free agent, ready to explore new challenges in Nigerian football.
His experience and proven track record with the Sunshine Stars are likely to attract interest from clubs seeking a talented and determined coach.
