Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance despite securing a crucial win over Kano Pillars during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash on Saturday.
In a move to keep chasing the NPFL championship, the Ikenne team managed to snag a close 2-1 victory over their visitors at the Remo Stars Stadium, Footballrover reports.
The Sky Blue Stars returned to winning ways after their recent defeat to Kwara United, but the coach was not impressed with the team’s display.
Barely six minutes into the match, Ahmed Akinwale handed Remo Stars the lead, and the result remained that way heading into the interval.
Musa Salisu gave the visitors a sweet response, bringing the score level three minutes into the second period of the game.
Before Remo Stars secured a well-earned victory and all three points, Nduka Junior scored the game-winning goal deep into stoppage time.
At the last minute again in Ikenne, the Stars ✨ left it late.

But then, coach Ogunmodede was candid in his assessment.
Coach Ogunmodede, who accepted that his team performed poorly in the match but was proud of their perseverance, told the club’s media shortly after the game that he never anticipated the result.
However, he described the result as unbelievable and incredible for the team, adding that he never thought they could secure the maximum three points at home considering what happened during the game.
“We had a not-too-good game, but we must salute the courage of the players for their resilience to keep fighting till the end. We had a very poor game,” he said.
While the win was crucial, he recognises that improvements are needed to achieve their goals.

Despite the win, Remo Stars remain in third place with 59 points, level with Enyimba and two points behind league leaders Enugu Rangers.
With the NPFL title race at its climax, Remo Stars will aim to build on this victory and deliver a better performance in their upcoming matches.
The team will face Lobi Stars in their next NPFL match on Sunday as they continue their pursuit of their first league title.
