Ex-Bendel Insurance defender Benjamin Tanimu made his starting debut for Ihefu Sports Club with a vital contribution in their 3-2 victory over relegation-threatened Mtibwa Sugar on Monday.
Tanimu, who recently joined the Tanzanian side on a long-term deal, slotted seamlessly into the backline alongside former NPFL and Rivers United star Morice Chukwu, Footballrover reports.
The duo played a key role in securing Ihefu’s first away win of the season in the 2023–2024 Ligi Kuu Bara campaign.
Key Points:
- Ihefu claimed the first away win of the season.
- Tanimu’s new club climbs to 11th in the table.
- Next up: Ihefu travels to Geita Gold.
Ihefu raced to a commanding lead early on, with Kenyan forward Duke Abuya and Togolese defender Marouf Tchakei finding the net within 30 minutes.
However, Mtibwa Sugar refused to lie down, pulling one back through Tiote just before halftime and equalising through Juma Liuzio early in the second half.
Just when the momentum seemed to be shifting, Ihefu regained the lead thanks to a well-orchestrated attack from the backline.
Kenyan international Elvis Rupia finished off the move with a composed strike, putting his side back in control.

The Mbeya-based outfit held firm to secure all three points, moving four places up the table to 11th with 16 points.
The next challenge for Benjamin Tanimu and his new teammates is a trip to the 10th-placed Geita Gold Football Club next Monday.
