Sikiru Alimi, teammate of newly-called Super Eagles player Sodiq Ismail, has revealed the secret to the young right-back’s success.
In an exclusive interview with Footballrover, Remo Stars forward Sikiru Alimi shared his excitement and insights about his teammate, saying, “He’s a game-changer.”
Ismaila, 20, has had an impressive season in the Nigeria Premier League, providing 12 assists in 30 matches for Remo Stars.
His remarkable performance has not only caught the eye of fans but also impressed the Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George.
With a total of 20 career assists as a right-back, he has proven himself to be a valuable asset to any team.
Alimi attributes Ismaila’s success to his “quality deliveries and penetrative runs.”

He believes that these skills will make Ismaila stand out for the Super Eagles and bring a new level of excitement to the team.
Joyous Team Celebration
When asked about the team’s reaction to Ismail’s call-up, Alimi said,
“Honestly, the whole team was thrown into a joyous mood yesterday with the great news, and we were all delighted.”
Perfect Timing for Ismail
Alimi believes that Ismail’s call-up is perfectly timed, given the new coach’s approach.
“I think this is the right time for him to showcase what he’s really good at generally, because of the new coach of the National Team and the style he’s trying to adopt. It would favour Sodiq personally, mainly because it’s the system he has flourished in with Remo Stars; he does his deliveries with ease without breaking a bone,” Alimi explained.
Standout Qualities
When asked about the qualities that will make Ismail stand out in the national team, Alimi highlighted his teammate’s exceptional skills.
“I think his quality deliveries and penetrative runs will make him stand out,” he noted.
These attributes have been instrumental in Ismail’s success at Remo Stars and are expected to pave way for him on the national stage.
I'm thrilled to receive my first national team ???????? call-up! I'm eager to give my all and make a strong contribution.
I am most grateful and thanks to the @thenff & and the coaching crew of the @NGSuperEagles for the opportunity. https://t.co/wpSyKPSVWB

Advice for Ismail
Alimi also shared some heartfelt advice for Ismail as he joins the Super Eagles camp.
“I wish him all the best and advise him to be confident enough to show his qualities and, above all, to be a good representation of the NPFL as a whole,” he said.
Boost Team Morale
Ismail’s call-up is not only a personal achievement but also a boost for the entire Remo Stars team.
“It means a lot going forward, not to Remo Stars alone but to the whole of the NPFL; above all, we are happy for him and the entire team at large. The morale is high right now; this will be a motivating factor going into the last stretch of the season,” Alimi shared.
Impact on Remo Stars and Super Eagles
Reflecting on Ismail’s impact on Remo Stars this season, Alimi said,
“He’s among the most important players in the club because of what his presence does for us; the stats are there, and he’s been involved in almost 95% of our goals, which says a lot about what he can do.”
Looking Ahead
With the Super Eagles set to face South Africa and Benin Republic on June 7th and 10th, respectively, fans are eagerly anticipating Ismail’s debut.
Alimi, however, is confident that Ismail will deliver outstanding performances as usual.
“I think he will bring a lot to the National Team in terms of deliveries and contributions, and hopefully the opportunity comes. I’m sure he will definitely deliver because he’s that good at what he does,” Alimi concluded.
As the Super Eagles prepare for their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying games, Sikiru Alimi and his teammates will also be preparing to battle Kwara United as the NPFL campaign resumes fully tomorrow.
