Bayelsa United owe their comeback against Abia Warriors during their NPFL matchday 11 to the stellar performance of star striker Robert Mizo.
Down 2-0 against the Ochendo Boys at Samson Siaisia Stadium, Mizo’s late-game heroics turned the tide, Footballrover reports
The Warriors initially secured a two-goal advantage through Samson Obi and Ibrahim Dehinde, threatening a home defeat for Bayelsa United.
However, Robert Mizo’s late brace rescued his team, preventing a potential loss.
Initially trailing 2-0, Bayelsa United found hope when Mizo netted two quick goals in the closing minutes, ending the match in a 2-2 draw.
Mizo’s crucial free-kick in the 83rd minute narrowed the gap before his second goal in the 87th minute salvaged a crucial point for the team.
This remarkable performance places Mizo in contention for the NPFL24 golden boot, jointly leading with Sikiru Alimi at nine goals each from 11 games.
Despite the draw, Bayelsa United remains rooted at the bottom of the table in 19th place with 10 points, while Abia Warriors stand 8th with 16 points.
Looking forward, Bayelsa United, without a win in their last six games, anticipates their South-South Derby against Rivers United on Sunday.
This upcoming fixture becomes crucial for their resurgence in the league.
