High-flying Rivers Angels delivered a five-star performance on Saturday at the Enyimba Stadium, storming into the quarter-finals of the President Federation Cup with a 5-0 demolition of First Mahi Babes.
But despite the comfortable win, head coach Tosan Blankson is far from satisfied, Footballrover reports.
Rivers Angels punish First Mahi Babes, but finishing woes persist
The Port Harcourt outfit were wasteful in the opening stages of the encounter, squandering multiple scoring chances.
Still, they managed to outclass their opponent—who looked more like spectators than serious contenders—in a match that looked more like a warm-up than a knockout tie.
Patience Otubo finally opened the floodgates in the 37th minute, converting a delightful cross from Titilayo Aweda.
A minute later, Aweda doubled the lead after being set up by Peace Effiong, giving Rivers Angels a 2-0 cushion heading into the break.
After halftime, the onslaught continued. Chisom Nwachukwu added a third in the 61st minute and turned provider shortly after, assisting Aminat Folorunsho for the fourth goal.
Then, in the 74th minute, Nwachukwu capped her performance with a well-taken brace, wrapping up the five-star show.
But for Coach Tosan Blankson, the victory only masked a deeper issue.
Coach Blankson targets Rivers Angels’ weakness before Super Six
“And that exactly is our finishing. Irrespective of the fact that we faced a very little team, that does not mean we cannot convert chances. So we have to work on our conversion of chances.”
Despite identifying that Rivers Angels must sharpen their conversion rate, Blankson expressed full confidence in his current squad.
He ruled out making any new additions ahead of the season’s decisive phase.
“The team is ready to go,” he said. “But we have to work on that finishing before the Super Six.”
With a Super Six showdown on the horizon and Rivers Angels chasing silverware, how quickly they address this glaring weakness could define their chase for glory and a continental spot.
