Rivers Angels coach Tosan Blankson has admitted that his side had to settle for less than they came for following their 1-1 draw with Edo Queens in a tense NWFL Super Six derby clash on Monday evening.
The South-South rivals, both title contenders, had initially suffered opening-day losses and hoped to bounce back to winning ways, Footballrover reports.
But despite early goals from Emem Essien and an own goal by Valentina Uroko, both teams failed to break the deadlock further to secure crucial three points.
“We came for a win”—Rivers Angels coach speaks after derby
Speaking during his post-match press conference, coach Blankson admitted that the fixture didn’t go as planned.
“We came for a win, but the game was so difficult for us, so we have to manage what we got,” he said.
NWFL Super Six pressure mounts as rivals share points
When asked about his target for the rest of the NWFL Super Six, the Rivers Angels coach gave a short but telling reply: “Everybody here is a champion.”
The draw leaves both Rivers ladies and Edo Queens with just one point after two matches, adding pressure ahead of their next fixtures as the race for the NWFL Super 6 title heats up.
The Garden City side will prepare for their next fixture against Nasarawa Amazons, hoping it will go in their favour as the playoffs leave them with three games to go.
